ABOUT GIANA AMADOR

I’m the Executive Director of the Carbon Removal Alliance, a nonprofit coalition built to protect and grow the carbon removal industry. I work at the nexus of project deployment and federal policy to solve the industry’s most pressing question: How do we scale? My perspective on climate change was born in the Central Valley of California: a politically blended district that produces a quarter of the nation’s food and much of the state’s oil and gas. With acute heat and demands on the land, the Central Valley, like much of the world, needs more climate solutions. I co-founded Carbon180 alongside Noah Deich in 2015 to bring carbon removal into the climate movement. Part incubator, part policy nonprofit, Carbon180 was the first dedicated carbon removal organization. With Carbon180, I brought the field’s first philanthropic backers to the table, incubated cutting-edge companies, and built an advocacy engine responsible for the world’s first government purchasing program, a several billion dollar investment in DAC, and robust RD & D programs at our National Labs. A decade later, Carbon180 remains a central voice in the ecosystem with a particular focus on just, equitable carbon removal programs.In 2023, with hundreds of carbon removal companies operating in the US who needed support to survive and scale, I became the founding executive director of the Carbon Removal Alliance. Alongside my team, I’m creating a playbook for carbon removal advocacy that centers the challenges of technologists and takes a pragmatic approach to building allies in Congress.
