Bright central galaxy detection research. Working within the XOC: X-ray Astronomy and Observational Cosmology research group of KIPAC, associated with Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.I designed an algorithm that identifies unusually bright and star-forming cluster central galaxies from photometric catalogs. I conducted extensive feature extraction, dataset curation. Properly recognizing star-forming bright central galaxies offers the opportunity to study galaxy clusters in gravitational equilibrium, which are useful cosmological tools for studies of dark matter and universe formation.
ABOUT GIA ANCONE
My passion for Artificial Intelligence developed from a love of algorithmic thinking and programming since elementary school. Most recently, my research has been focused on applying machine learning to astrophysics. Looking forward, my intention is to work on AI innovation, and help create the advanced models and technologies that can drive us toward solving major physics challenges; space exploration, autonomous robotics, energy, etc. Outside of academics, I enjoy dancing, cooking, and spending time outdoors with my loved ones!
