ABOUT GARY HUTSON
I’m a Data Scientist specialising in pharmaceutical supply chain analytics and generative AI automation, working across large volumes of unstructured text to drive insight, efficiency, and operational decision-making at scale. My current focus is on applying NLP, LLMs, and production-grade AI systems to complex, real-world problems - moving beyond experimentation to measurable impact.Previously, I was Head, Lead, and Developer of Machine Learning at Resolver, where I led and hands-on delivered AI solutions across the organisation. My expertise spans natural language processing and computer vision, including named entity recognition (NER), text and sentiment classification, recommender systems, and image detection and classification. I also have strong experience in MLOps, LLMs, and LLMOps, ensuring models are scalable, reliable, and production-ready.Across my career, I’ve built and led high-performing data science teams while remaining an active individual contributor. At CoreLogic, I led machine learning and analytics initiatives across housing, energy, and public services, focusing on modelling, data enrichment, and advanced learning systems, alongside direct ownership of MLOps pipeline design and delivery. At Arden & GEM CSU, I worked closely with national NHS bodies and CCGs, overseeing teams covering data science, statistics, and modelling. A key contribution was supporting the national vaccination programme, where advanced analytics and forecasting were central to operational success.Earlier, at Draper & Dash, I developed over 40 machine learning algorithms, contributing to a 90+ algorithm stack on a data science platform I co-developed. I led the data science function while remaining deeply involved in platform architecture, modelling, and scalability. As a Principal Analyst in the NHS, I authored technical research, wrote educational blogs and books on Python, and secured up to £200K in research funding, delivering projects such as ED admission forecasting and systems-wide early warning scores. I began my career as an Intelligence Analyst with Nottinghamshire Police, applying GIS, statistics, and modelling to crime pattern detection and strategic operations.I’m a Google Certified Machine Learning Engineer and Certified TensorFlow Developer, and the author of two technical books on Python focused on data modelling and machine learning with scikit-learn, NumPy, and pandas. I’m driven by building AI systems that are not just sophisticated, but trusted, scalable, and genuinely useful.
