As head of Data Collection Methodology at Ipsos MORI, I provide survey methodological advice to internal and external clients, contribute to UK and international social research proposals, work alongside Ipsos survey managers and researchers to ensure that all elements of the survey (questionnaire, sample design, data collection methodology) best meet the client’s objectives, and contribute to the development of innovative research and survey methodology ideas at Ipsos MORI. More recently that includes the development of push-to-web methods and mobile-first questionnaire design. I work on a wide range of random probability surveys such as the GP Patient Survey for NHS England, the Active Lives Survey for Sport England, The Taking Part Web Panel for DCMS, the Pupil and Parent Omnibus Survey for DfE, and the Fundamental Rights Survey Pilot for The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. My specific areas of expertise include survey response rates and non-response bias, respondent incentives, mixed-mode surveys, mode effects, web surveys and survey paradata. I am currently the General Secretary of the European Survey Research Association, having been an ordinary committee member since July 2013. I am also a member of the Understanding Society Methodological Advisory Committee.
