About Gerry Guerrero
Gerry Guerrero, AIA, NCARB, DBIA is the Global Director of Justice for HDR, one of the world’s leading global architecture practices. In its 50-plus years as a recognized justice leader, HDR has built a strong reputation for designing facilities that reflect the gravitas of their missions, while maintaining transparency, security and dignity for those in the justice system. HDR has established itself as a leader in advocating for meaningful thinking in justice architecture, reimagining the typology of justice architecture to one that is restorative not punitive, and absolutely essential to a community’s health and well-being. HDR’s work is especially timely in this era of social reckoning when we are reevaluating our assumptions around social equity and justice. HDR not only designs buildings, but also understands the operational and functional drivers that mold these facilities—corrections and detention facilities, juvenile justice facilities, medical and behavioral healthcare, law enforcement and courts. Gerry has over 30 years of justice design, planning and project management experience, serving local, state, federal and private clients; with deep knowledge in alternative delivery methods on large scale projects. His career has included influential positions at HOK, Carter Goble Lee and Dewberry for 25 years. As the new Global Director, Gerry will focus the program on social and restorative justice with a focus on behavioral health within the system. At HDR, we believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details can yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward, and that each new project represents the opportunity to deliver our best work yet.
