About German Caruso

I’m passionate about using data to make policy smarter and more inclusive. As Head of the Regional and Sectoral Data Group at the Inter-American Development Bank, I lead efforts to strengthen data systems, modernize statistical capacity, and turn evidence into action across Latin America and the Caribbean. I care deeply not only about the impact of our work—but also about helping my team grow, collaborate, and succeed together.Before joining the IDB, I spent over 15 years at the World Bank leading analytical work on poverty, migration, climate change, and human capital—turning data into insights that inform policy and improve lives. I worked closely with national statistical offices and governments across Latin America, Europe, and Africa to strengthen capacity and modernize data systems.On the research side, my work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Development Economics, American Economic Review, World Development, and Climatic Change. I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Economics from Universidad de San Andrés (Argentina).
