About German Laiton
As a civil engineering student, I am actively developing a well-rounded skill set through internships, competitions, and leadership roles. My experience spans civil design, transportation, construction management, and structural design, with a growing interest in geotechnical engineering. I have gained hands-on experience in structural engineering, transportation, and utility infrastructure through internships at WSP, SmithGroup, and the Village of Romeoville. Currently, I am exploring the construction management field as an intern at Blackwood Group LLC, working on projects involving affordable housing, precast concrete structures, and multi-use developments in the Chicago area. Beyond technical expertise, I have taken on leadership roles as VP of the Illinois Asian-American Civil Engineers club at IIT, Fundraising Chair for ASCE-IIT, President for ASCE-ONU, and a current scholar in the IIT Leadership Academy. I also competed in the NPCA Foundation Student Competition, where my team placed third nationally, developing a bid proposal for marine precast structures. Now, I contribute to the industry as a member of the NPCA Young Professionals Task Force.
