ABOUT GEREON MEYER

Dr. Gereon Meyer is a physicist, author and innovation policy consultant. He is specialized in digital and green technologies enabling product innovation, and in the transformation of the automobile, urban mobility and the transportation system towards sustainability, resilience and user centricity. He is the Head of the Department European and International Business Development at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH in Berlin, Germany. Gereon has curated 25 books and directed numerous future studies and roadmaps, including “Electrification of the Transport System” (2017) and “Connected and Automated Transport” (2019) of the Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda (STRIA) issued by the European Commission. He has been the chairman of the International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) since 2009, and he serves as coordinator of the Working Group Transportation of the European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration (EPoSS), the editor of the Springer book series Lecture Notes in Mobility and the co-chair of the Symposium on the Future of Transportation and the Role of Europe-U.S. Research Collaboration. He is a member of various expert panels, e.g. the board of the European association of innovation agencies (TAFTIE), the executive group of the Association for the EU-Partnership on Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM), the industry delegation of the EU-Partnership 2Zero, the European Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Alliance (ECAVA), the European advisory board of SAE International, and the editorial board of the World Electric Vehicle Journal. Gereon has led a number of projects funded by the EU, and is an expert for the Urban Innovative Actions and European Urban Initiative (EUI) of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). He is frequently assigned with roles as speaker, workshop facilitator and evaluator, and as columnist for the Tagesspiegel Background Verkehr & Smart Mobility,He earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the Freie Universität Berlin. Being a fellow of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation, he was a research associate at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA (USA), and a visiting scientist at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, San Jose, CA (USA) as well as Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA (USA), before joining VDI/VDE-IT in 2007. Gereon holds certificates in leadership as well as city governance, planning and design by the Universität St. Gallen (Switzerland) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK), respectively.
