About Gerard Soppe
In 1995, after my study, I started my career as project manager at Water Authority Groot Maas and Waal in water resource management. Steadily I grew into a managerial position in which I was responsible for a department that made the policies and did research on the water system for the Water Authority.In 2008 I joined Vitens Evides International (Dutch Water Operator) to work abroad (Vietnam) and increase the capacity of a local utility and to improve drinking water services for the urban poor. As advisor to the management of a utility in a city the size of Amsterdam we achieved great operational improvements. Non-revenue water went down from 40 to 20 percent for instance. Mostly by changing the management style and organizational structure. From there I managed several projects in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean as Regional Director.I joined the World Bank in 2016 with a focus on Building Sustainable Urban Utilities. I work on Utility Performance for which key areas are Utility Turnaround, Non-Revenue Water and Resilience. For any of these topics feel free to drop in and I will be happy to discuss.
