I have working for over 35 years to solve water-related problems in many countries. As Water Adviser (member of UNSGAB) to the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan and later Ban Ki-moon, from 2004 to 2015, I contributed to the recognition of the Human Rights to safe drinking water and sanitation as well as to the adoption of the numerous water-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).I continue to work on mobilising the international community to better manage water issues through more ambitious public policies. Simultaneously, since 2009, I have been advising the UN agencies that produce global water statistics. Impressed by the number of misconceptions about the nature of water-related problems, which hinder public authorities in their decision-making, I published a book in 2013 to dismantle these misconceptions. After having stimulated the use of SDGs in France, at the instigation of the French Water Partnership, I developed in 2020 the 4allSDGs method to assess impacts on all SDGs of any action in a sector.
