About Gerard Lapuente
I’m a junior Posse and APIA Scholar at Pomona College, majoring in Psychological Science. As a Pre-Health student, I’m passionate about exploring the intersection of mental health and medical care, driven by my experiences as a Certified Nursing Assistant and student researcher.I aim to pursue an MD/PhD and work as a physician-scientist in psychiatry, focusing on addressing healthcare disparities in underserved communities. I aspire to provide quality, accessible care while conducting research that illuminates the social and biomedical factors affecting disadvantaged populations.My experiences as a first-generation, low-income minority student have shaped my commitment to advocacy, leadership, and empathy. Through roles such as Pre-Health Liaison, FLI Mentor, FLI Academic and Professional Events Lead, 5Cs Kasama Co-President, and QSC Partner, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for community building and mentorship.Outside academics, I enjoy connecting with friends and family, trying different foods, exploring new places, indulging in arts and crafts, watching fictional films and shows, and reading. I’m excited to continue growing as a leader and advocate, leveraging my skills to uplift others and create a meaningful impact in healthcare.
