Senior leader with over 18 years experience overseeing the administration and deployment of NYSTRS’ private equity and private debt programs. Sit on numerous LP Advisory Boards and have extensive industry contacts to help facilitate sourcing and due diligence. Voting member of the NYSTRS’ Internal Investment Committee responsible for reviewing and approving annual asset allocation, overall investment strategy, enterprise-wide cash management and investment recommendations across all asset classes. Prepare and present quarterly updates to the Retirement Board outlining private equity & private debt portfolio updates and performance information. Supervise a staff of 10 investment professionals and 1 support staff and oversee the department’s annual operating budget. Key accomplishments include: Initiated and fully built out our small/mid-market buyout portfolio focused on the U.S. and Western Europe starting in 2009, shifting the portfolio away from the large/mega buyout markets. As of 9/30/21, commitments of approximately $7.8 billion have been made to 87 funds across 37 new relationships, 26% net IRR.68x DPI and 1.9x net multiple. Initiated and implemented the addition of Private Debt as a new allocation in 2017 with an initial target of 1%; subsequently received approval to increase to 2% in 2021. Initiated and led the restart of NYSTRS’ private equity/debt co-investment program focused on capturing syndicated deal flow by leveraging existing relationships. Initiated and led the creation of an emerging manager program in 2012 focused on small buyouts. Initiated and led two secondary sales totaling approximately $2.7 billion in NAV for portfolio management purpose, greatly reducing legacy strategies and relationships.

Voting member of the NYSTRS’ Internal Investment Committee responsible for reviewing and approving annual asset allocation, overall investment strategy, enterprise-wide cash management and investment recommendations across all asset classes. Prepare and present quarterly updates to the Retirement Board outlining private equity & private debt portfolio updates and performance information. Supervise a staff of 7 investment professionals and 1 support staff and oversee the department’s annual operating budget. Responsible for managing relationships and contracts with external consultants and vendors. Oversee the review and completion of legal amendments, consents, and tax filings.
