ABOUT GEORGIA MJARTAN

Georgia Mjartan is President and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. Impacting the lives of families and individuals across the Midlands of South Carolina and beyond, Central Carolina Community Foundation connects philanthropic donors and fund holders with nonprofit organizations. As the leader of a community foundation with assets of over $200 million and 500 plus funds, Mjartan is a connector and convener, linking generous philanthropists with mission-driven leaders to ensure wise investments create a lasting legacy of impact. Prior to her role at the foundation, Georgia was a state agency director, grant-maker and nonprofit leader. As Executive Director of South Carolina First Steps, Mjartan more than doubled the organization\'s reach to more than children birth through age five served annually, expanded PreK statewide, and secured permanency for the agency through legislative authorization. Mjartan was also the director of the Early Childhood Advisory Council, a multi-agency coalition of state and federally funded public entities serving young children. She pioneered the development of a first-in-the-nation technology solution, First5SC.org, that streamlines eligibility and application for dozens of publicly funded early childhood programs, attracting over unique visitors in its first year. Mjartan serves on the national board of Parents as Teachers, the nation’s most replicated home visiting and parenting education program, and on the Community Investment Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. She is an Aspen Institute Ascend Fellow and was commissioner for Columbia Housing Authority, a former gubernatorial appointee to the Arkansas Housing Trust Fund, and a member of numerous public and nonprofit boards and commissions focused on healthcare, workforce, and human services. Mjartan spent over a decade leading Our House, a large-scale anti-poverty program in Arkansas that empowers extremely low-income and homeless families and individuals to succeed in the workforce, school, and life. Under her leadership, the organization dramatically expanded, doubling the units of available housing and growing to include homelessness prevention, two-gen whole family supports, a quality-rated early learning center, after school and summer programs, workforce training and re-entry from incarceration programs, adult education, and financial literacy.
