The NOTF, in pairing with the cardiothoracic National Online Training Programme Director, is competatively appointed by application and interview to design and deliver the Cardiothoracic specific National Training Hub. My role is to build an online cardiothoracic curriculum focused education platform, in close collaboration with SCTS Education, and contributing to a pan-specialty core common content curriculum. ABOUT GEORGIA R. LAYTON

I am a cardiothoracic surgery national trainee (resident) based in the East Midlands, UK. I am currently working out-of-programme (OOP-R) as a British Heart Foundation clinical research training fellow in the University of Leicester and University of Oxford departments of cardiovascular sciences completing a clinically-focused PhD in molecular biology evaluating conduit patency after CABG.I moved OOP-R during phase-2 of surgical training and maintain clinical commitments as a cardiac surgery registrar, continuing to gain operative experience during my research fellowship.In addition to a BHF fellowship, I have been awarded a British Heart Foundation research accelerator award and a vanGeest research award from the University of Leicester, as well as an academic research award from Heart Research UK in association with SCTS.My experience includes more than seven years dedicated general and cardiothoracic surgery experience, sustained national level leadership responsibilities, and a year devoted to enhanced learning in medical education.I am the appointed HEE National Online Training Fellow for Cardiothoracic Surgery. We are developing a curriculum-centred teaching platform available free for all residents in our specialty nationally.My areas of interest include coronary disease, the role of sex in outcomes after cardiac surgery, and equity in surgical research and training
