ABOUT GEORGE FITZMAURICE

After a career working in software development and leadership,I tried a fun job as a tour guide in Fort Lauderdale. The job was fun, yet wasn’t intellectually challenging. I then tried my hand at retirement and found it didn’t suit me.I realized how much I enjoyed hunting down problems and finding solutions, cybersecurity seemed a perfect fit, so I dug into a bootcamp and acquired Security+ certification. I quickly found myself in the top 1% on TryHackMe.com and became a tutor. My extensive software development experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of the inner workings of systems and systems development practices, which now informs my understanding of CyberSecurity challenges. Whether it’s a zero-day exploit, an access-appropriate-to-role issue, or anything in between, I bring a big-picture perspective to understanding the challenge and finding a solution. My ability to communicate equally well with both technical and non-technical people allows me to translate technical requirements to business leaders and business requirements to technical teams, as well as to effectively influence decision-makers and those outside my direct authority. By making sure I understand an issue from multiple angles, I am able to make better, more informed decisions. I approach a challenge by researching to gain an understanding of what happened and why before determining how to fix it and, most importantly, how to minimize the risk of it happening again. I’ve worked directly with CyberSecurity teams throughout my career in development. Threats to organizations and individuals grow as the bad guys keep honing their skills. I have broadened my skills to take them on.
