ABOUT GEORGE BROOKS

A fullstack software engineer with 3 years experience including 2 years professional Node.js backend developer experience.I build fast, durable reliable RESTful APIs, using my knowledge of Node.js and PostgreSQL to develop optimised database queries and deliver efficient and secure backend solutions. I create lightweight responsive front-end designs with industry-leading tools like React, and Typescript. I leverage cloud computing tools like AWS to create dynamic responsive scalable server architectures and efficient microservices and serverless functions. I develop custom reporting functions, dynamically generating XLSX spreadsheets and PDF documents on demand. I thrive as part of a distributed team, partnering with colleages to effectively plan, execute, review and deliver production goals. I promote effective team communication and transparency, thoroughly documenting my work and cultivating an environment of open collaboration. I am an indepenent and self-directed problem solver who welcomes constructive feedback and leverages the expertese of team-members to reach best outcomes. I am curious and always learning, constantlty seeking to expand and enhance my skillset. I am open to new challenges and I am not afraid to reflect on my development needs and proactively meet them. In my previous career as a pharmacist I spent 10 years improving public health, advocating for underserved communities, and supporting vulnerable patients. I have always been driven to help others and to improve the world around me, whether campaigning against healthcare inequality, volunteering at a community flu-shot clinic, or just treating individuals with kindness, dignity and respect. However, after a decade on the front lines of healthcare, I was ready to step back and apply my energy in a new direction.During the pandemic I chose to embark on a new career path and join the 21st century digital workforce because I believe the internet continues to be our greatest potential resource for positive transformative change, and I want to contribute to the architecture of a brighter, kinder, fairer future.I am most drawn to roles with companies that have a clear positive social mission and values that align with my own. I am particularly interested in remote-working roles that will allow me to work with a degree of flexibility and independence as part of a larger team.
