ABOUT GEORGE TIEN JIE YONG

As a high Upper Second-Class Law graduate from the University of Nottingham, ranking in the top 12% of a 250-strong cohort, and an awardee of the Punch Coomaraswamy Prize for making an outstanding contribution to enhancing the multicultural community within the School of Law, I am deeply committed to pursuing a career in commercial law.Academically, I have explored the intersections of law, technology, and regulation as an Undergraduate Research Assistant under Essex Law Lecturer and Cambridge University Research Associate, Zhenbin Zuo, focusing on AI and Algorithmic Governance across China, the USA, and England.Mooting and debating have been a cornerstone of my training, where I reached the semi-finals of the 2022–23 Internal Contract Mooting Competition and was a finalist in the 2024 Varsity Moot against the University of Warwick. Besides this, I represented the University of Nottingham as one of several UK teams in an international U.S. Fintech Crypto Legal Hackathon, which strengthened my ability to apply legal principles to emerging global markets within the Fintech sector. I was also named quarterfinalist of the Aspiring Solicitors Commercial Awareness Competition 2025-26, ranking within the top 15% of more than competitors nationwide.I have undertaken internships at leading law firms across local, international, and foreign jurisdictions, equipping me with practical insights into cross-border commercial work. To broaden my exposure, I have attended over 10 insight events across Silver Circle, U.S, and mid-market firms, including Herbert Smith Freehills, BCLP, White & Case, Paul Hastings, Eversheds Sutherland, and King & Spalding. My commitment to professional growth is further evidenced by my participation in competitive coaching and mentoring programmes such as Aspiring Solicitors (ASPIRE and NRF-bp Mentoring Scheme) and Commercial Café.I am eager to connect with professionals and explore opportunities in commercial and corporate law, bringing with me strong research, analytical, and advocacy skills alongside a global perspective.
