ABOUT GEORGE WIMBERLY
George L. Wimberly is the Director of Professional Development at the American Educational Research Association (AERA). In this position he develops and implements programs to enrich research skills, expand knowledge, and build research capacity among graduate students and early career scholars. He develops and manages the AERA dissertation and postdoctoral fellowship programs, provides national exposure to these fellowship opportunities, and works directly with grantees and their institutions. Through his work in science education policy, he collaborates with associations and research societies to enhance diversity among scientists and the research topics they examine. He is currently the Co-principal investigator on the National Science Foundation funded project, ECR and Advancing Core STEM Research Through Scientific Studies and Capacity Building with Large-Scale Data Resources. Dr. Wimberly earned his A.B. from the College of the Holy Cross in sociology; and his A.M. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago where his research focused on African American students’ educational attainment.He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
