Leading a division responsible for research, conceptual design, analysis, technology development, and flight system development of propulsion systems for aeronautical and space applications. The organization comprises 12 branches consisting of approximately 220 NASA engineers and over 60 contractors. Activities span a number of technology areas, including airbreathing propulsion, combined cycle propulsion, chemical rocket engines and systems, electric propulsion systems, and advanced propulsion technologies. The division is a major NASA provider in the areas of propulsion systems analysis; engine combustion; turbomachinery and turboelectric systems; fluid and cryogenic systems; integrated hypersonic inlets, nozzles and flowpaths; chemical and nuclear thermal propulsion systems; electric propulsion systems; thermal systems analysis; engine icing and aeroacoustics research; in-situ resource utilization; and fundamental combustion and fluid physics research.
