ABOUT GEORGE HEGMANN
I am an environmental scientist, engineer, technical writer and educator. I am an advocate for continued improvement in environmental assessment and management.My technical specialty is environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for major energy, mining and infrastructure project regulatory applications under provincial, territorial, federal and joint review. Following 13 years (19••••94) focused on energy conservation, technical writing and a Masters degree, I have the last 30 years (1995-) provided EIA project management, technical and regulatory services. The geographic focus has been western (Alberta and British Columbia) and northern (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut) Canada.My sub-specialty is cumulative effects assessments (CEAs), for which I have provided advice, guidance and training to industry, federal, provincial and territorial governments and boards. I have also designed and completed Regional Cumulative Effects Assessments (RCEAs). I remain active in advancing EIA practice through participation and presentation at various academic, public, publishing and corporate forums.I have previously been the Stantec national practice lead for environmental assessment and in Calgary and Edmonton a Business Centre Practice Lead (BCPL) for Environmental Services (ES), both technical leadership positions. The roles included responsibility for technical practice development, quality management and overall business growth and development for staff representing regulatory/assessment planning, technical and project management support, and multiple biophysical disciplines.
