Models twenty-first-century practices in curriculum design, collaboration, and instruction in history and special short-term courses that stress essential skills in reading, writing, and speaking as well as life skills. Recognized by Publix Charities with the Faculty Prize (“Teacher of the Year,” in 2013) after making a career change from the business sector to the education sector. Honored by the Tennessee Holocaust Commission with the Belz-Lipman Award (“Holocaust Educator of the Year,” in 2016). Awarded one of six statewide Humanities Tennessee Fellowships (“Humanities Educator of the Year,” also in 2016). Recognized with a three-year endowed, named academic chair (\"Fort Chair in Writing,\" effective 2017).
