His story started like many others: he was “banged up” physically, mentally, and emotionally. Facing divorce, medical retirement, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, he refused to accept standard of care and refused to believe a large portion of his symptoms were “all in his head.”Geoff sought care outside the conventional medical system. He started a transformational health experience that he later continued at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine with Dr. Mark Hyman MD, at the flagship clinical care and research facility for the Institute of Functional Medicine.This experience not only showed Geoff what was driving his conditions and causing his symptoms, but it also empowered him to address these root causes and protect himself from exposures inherent to the Military Operational Environment.Ever since his healing experience in 2013 — in true force multiplier fashion — Geoff has been recruiting diverse professionals and advocates who share his Mission, Purpose & Focus. Their work through the Health Initiatives Program continues to empower others in the community and build the case for taking a Person-Oriented Medical Approach to caring for our soldiers and special operators.\"The Brotherhood doesn\'t end after injury, illness, ETS or retirement.\"

   Jul 2012 — Present

   Founded, and direct the leading Performance/Lifestyle/Functional Medicine Program in the Special Operations Community. The increase in cancers and suicides within the Special Operations community is undeniable and was the impetus for the SOF Health Initiative Program. Exposures and experiences shared among the Special Operations Forces services members are a direct correlation with the health conditions they harbor.A person-oriented approach to wellness provides a holistic view of an individual’s experience and exposure (lifestyle, environment and genetics), unveiling the root cause of dysfunction.Once dysfunction is discovered, appropriate, targeted, and effective treatments can be implemented to restore wellness.The Special Operations Forces community is undisputed for being unconventional and taking alternative measures for problem solving. The SOF Health Initiative is no different.In fact, the program is inspired by the first SOF truth: Humans are more important than hardware. We take a militaristic approach to our program of education and awareness, providing guiding principles for understanding one’s health and empowering service members to take ownership of their health and wellness.We are operators. We understand the symptoms and struggles of the long journey to optimal health. We’ve seen how treating only the disease, and not the dysfunction, results in the opposite of wellness, often compounding the issue. This is why we are committed to providing alternative methods to improve warfighter health.
