ABOUT GEOFF DYER
August 2018 Geoff is a professional Urban Designer currently serving as the Master Planning and Urban Design Strategic Lead (Associate) with Calgary-based B&A Planning and Design. His 18 years of varied experience includes public and private sector leadership positions; ongoing education and lecturing roles on urbanism, code reform, and the design and implementation of walkable, mixed use communities; and extensive project experience. He comes to B&A after 5 years in the public sector serving as the first Director of Design for Downtown Lafayette, Louisiana, and eventually assuming the role of CEO for their Downtown Development Authority where he continues to work on their Downtown Master Plan and remains connected to the Acadiana community. He completed over 80 projects in 18 U.S. States and 4 Canadian Provinces. Of these, he served the role of Project Principal and Lead Designer for 60 projects, and 27 as Project Manager. As a partner and principle in U.S based Placemakers llc, Geoff served as design team lead, managing the design & collaboratively co-authoring most of the firm’s over 40 form-based codes and SmartCodes (25 adopted at that time). Geoff holds a Master in Environmental Design (Urban Design) from the University of Calgary, is a Knight Fellow in Community Building from the University of Miami, is accredited by the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNUa), and is a member of the New Urban Guild. In addition to a number of publications and webinars, he served as adjunct instructor at the University of Calgary, was a 3-time lecturer for the SmartCode Workshop, hosted several conference sessions at the national APA and the Congress for the New Urbanism, and is a 3-time faculty lecturer for Andrés Duany’s CityBuilding Exchange in New Orleans.
