About Geoff Baker
Longtime former journalist in Canada and the United States who was a six-time winner of top national newspaper writing awards split evenly between the two countries in both sports and news categories. Often specialized in investigative and business stories, while also writing regular opinion columns and covering sports teams in the NHL, MLB, MLS and CFL.I have jumped to a new career path in an executive role with the Seattle Kraken NHL team, focusing on their organizational storytelling across multiple platforms. I will oversee their written storytelling and help shape strategy across additional platforms, including their new TV network. My “Rising From The Deep” book, from 2022, told the story of the Kraken’s origins and the business and political drama that led to their creation as well as the demise and hopeful rebirth of the NBA Seattle SuperSonics. This new career position feels like a natural outgrowth from the book and the experiences it enabled me to both witness and learn from. For a native Montrealer, working in this capacity for an NHL team is a dream come true. Sports have been a lifelong passion and the opportunity to help grow NHL hockey in the Pacific Northwest is a responsibility I will proudly take on.
