ABOUT GENEVIEVE FLASPOHLER
I am the Executive Director at Rhiza Research, a nonprofit organization that develops open technology to serve people and the planet. We seek out data, technology, and technical capacity gaps and develop creative, open, and accessible technical solutions to fill these gaps. We are dedicated to working on projects that we believe will have a positive impact on the well-being of ecosystems and communities, from electric grids and climate & weather forecasting, from ecology and music.I spent two wonderful years as the the Chief Data Officer of nLine, working to improve the reach, reliability, and resilience of the world’s power grids, with a specific focus on West Africa. I graduated with my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology & Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) Joint Program, advised by Dr. John W. Fisher and Prof. Nicholas Roy. My thesis presented new ideas in scientific discovery, marine robotics, and subseasonal weather and climate forecasting.
