ABOUT GENEVIEVE BEGKOYIAN

Senior health advisor with over 30 years of experience working with premier development agencies, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the European Commission\'s Humanitarian Office (ECHO). • Author many articles in peer-reviewed journals, she has significantly contributed to “intellectual thought leadership” not only at UNICEF but in the global public health fraternity. For example, she was a co-author in the influential Lancet series on neonatal survival (2005), the Disease Control Priorities in development countries (2006) and UNICEF’s equity approach (2012, including Lancet series on Equity) • Among the global leaders who authored the seminal paper entitled ‘’Narrowing the Gaps” that spawned the application of the \"Equity Approach” as an organization-wide priority, catalyzed by the “A Promise Renewed” initiative. She is among the conceptualizers of EQUIST, the powerful web-based analytical platform designed to help decision-makers developing equitable strategies to improve health outcomes of the most vulnerable mother and children. • Among notable achievements at UNICEF have included her role in the development of UNICEF’s global health strategy (2006 – 2015), in the design of the Accelerated Child Survival and Development (ACSD) strategy and in the conceptualization and global application of the Marginal Budgeting for Bottlenecks (MBB), as well as the Equity approach to health systems strengthening. • Served UNICEF as Senior advisor in New York headquarters, regional child survival advisor for West and central Africa region, for South Asia region, Chief of health in India, Chief of health in Lebanon, Chief of health in DR Congo and during recent emergencies: Pakistan floods, Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, Ebola in DR Congo, Beirut Blast, Multiple emergency and health emernegies in DR Congo.
