ABOUT GENE KELLY
My experiences have revolved around initiating new programs and services to engage students in higher education institutions and encourage their initial and continued success. As a diversity and inclusion consultant and trainer, I provide assistance to organizations in addressing their goals in developing environments where individuals of all backgrounds can achieve their full potential. In addition, I\'ve been a highly effective in-class and online educator, developing and teaching courses for eight different institutions on a variety of subjects.Highlights- developed comprehensive practices to support students who struggle with financial, housing, and food insecurity during their college years- effectively advocate for and develop changes to policies to center student needs, rights, and protections - initiated numerous programs and services for LGBTQA students at two national liberal arts colleges and one regional public university including: Safe Zone programs, private discussion groups, recognition of national heritage/history celebrations, gender-identity based caucus groups, advising student organizations, consulting with various campus constituencies regarding inclusive services for trans and nonbinary individuals- coordinate comprehensive sexual violence and sexual harassment prevention education program including passive and active components, training for responsible employees in-line with federal mandates and legislation- initiated and managed a comprehensive student leadership development program focusing on personal skill development, organizational management, and exploration of leadership theory culminating in a student leadership certificate program- co-founded the Social Justice Institute, a three-day intensive social justice leadership retreat focusing on increasing knowledge, awareness, and skills surrounding race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and class. Model has been used and adopted at three institutions- developed new courses focused on gender and sexuality in American culture, diversity and film, masculinity in media, and higher education research and assessment.Specialties: foundational concepts in social justice; forensic psychology and juvenile justice; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender issues and culture; sexual violence prevention; social justice education; men and masculinities; leadership development; college student development; new student transition.
