ABOUT GENE KONZEN

I started in the Fire Service in 1978 at age 14 by joining Wayne Township Fire Department as a cadet. Attended IUPUI until I was hired at Pike Township Fire Department in April of 1987. I served on the Pike Township Fire department until December when Wayne Township became a Combination Fire Department. Joined the Wayne Township Fire Department as a Captain and PIO and have served in several positions and ranks before being appointed as Fire Chief from 2005 until 2007. I returned to the Shift in 2007 as a Battalion Chief in Safety. I was instrumental in developing a Fire Science program for our local High School Career Center. I returned to take the leadership role as Fire Chief of the Wayne Township Fire Department January 1st 2011 to December 31st 2018. Honorary life member of the Indiana Fire Chiefs. Past Treasurer of the Indiana Fire Chiefs. Past President of the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association and the the Education Committee Chair. Graduate of Vincennes University Fire Science degree and hold numerous State Certificates including: Indiana State Certified Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer I, II, and IV, Hazardous Materials Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Instructor I / II / Driver Operator, Airport Crash and Rescue, Fire Medic II, NFA Incident Safety Officer, Confined Space Rescue Tech, Rope Rescue Tech, Structural Collapse Rescue Tech, Trench Rescue Tech, Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Tech, NIMS 100, 200, 300,400, 700 and 800 certified, Master Strategy and Tactics.
