ABOUT GEHAN SRI-PATHMANATHAN

I am currently part of Sheffield City Council\'s Capital Delivery Service.Previously I worked as a Senior Highways Engineer for AECOM in Chesterfield where I worked on a number of National Highways RIP Schemes, including the A52 Nottingham Junctions improvement, the A38 Derby Junctions and the M54 to M6 Link Road and the M3 Smart Motorway All Lane Running Scheme,(also for Highways England). I also acted as the Company Highways England Liaison Officer (CHELO) for AECOM responsible for ensuring access to HE WebDAS and SMIS web portals. Prior to that, I retrained to teach secondary Mathematics, following redundancy from Mott MacDonald, graduating from Sheffield Hallam in 2012. Though I gained valuable experience (not least in pedagogy), I believe that in order to become a good, as opposed to a merely competent, Mathematics Teacher I would have needed to invest a substantial amount of time to the detriment of family life and though I enjoyed teaching, I felt that at this stage it is not the career I wished to follow. That is not to say that I have wasted my time retraining as I will continue to maintain an interest in the Education sector and will continue to use my skills in STEM and promoting Civil Engineering.Having originally trained as a Civil Engineer specialising in highways infrastructure, I spent 20 years at Mott MacDonald, Sheffield, where I liaised with other offices both here in the UK and in Ireland within the organisation. Working for a private business, one which went through rapid expansion (both nationally and internationally) has given me an excellent insight into how business operates and this is something I wish to continue to use in to promote Civil Engineering to school-age students as a STEM Ambassador as well as offering employability skills to young people as part of any CSR programme that might be offered by my employer.
