ABOUT MIKE HORWATH
Automation is something I have rallied behind for the last 15 years.Ansible is my choice for inside operating system environments if only because it fits my mindset far more than Chef/Puppet.Terraform is my choice for building infrastructure, especially in AWS. It has become my Swiss Army knife for 95% of my AWS automation code. For the other 5% I have had to drop back into my programming roots with Python with Boto3. I\'d rather \'terraform apply\':)Some use the word \'DevOps\' to define automation though I think DevOps is far more about communication and collaboration than any type of automation. Then we have SecOps or SecDevOps where things are equally as confusing IMO.A user of VMware for 15+ years. Even have an original VCP certification. I don\'t use VMware as much anymore except in my lab.I have done tons and tons of server work, server, network, and cloud architecture, VMware, virtualization, network engineering, systems engineering, cluster engineering, load balancing design/architecture/implementation, and many-multigigabit network tuning. But today? 98% of my time is spent dealing with AWS infrastructure, and the security and compliance of same. I enjoy the automation of the infrastructure and less of the underlying \'application\' layer. Nothing like using Terraform and soon you have a virtual private cloud-ready for application deployment for the next steps. I really should blog more about this.I have managed/led teams of people, large and small, doing these same kinds of items.I am a huge fan of FreeBSD; I wish more \'cloud\' providers would embrace my choice of server OS.I, also, have a long history with SUN SunOS/Solaris. I still miss SUNW, and love the Type 7 UNIX keyboards. And Docker (well, containerization) because it\'s something to add here as it has shaken up the community. I should use this more and I have gained some enterprise experience in Kubernetes deployments, Helm charts, and building containers from scratch.I like managing infrastructure and people more than networking (boxes and wires). There, I said it. You cannot unread it!Current resume with download links to Word and PDF files at the top: https://the-resume.geekandi.com/
