ABOUT GED CONNOLLY-THOMPSON

I first joined the NHS in 2009 following a number of years working in central government, local government and civil engineering. My first role was with an NIHR Biomedical Research Unit working across both Leeds Teaching Hospital and The University of Leeds in musculoskeletal translational research through the creation and management of a robust and secure data collection system. This drastically improved the quality of the data which in turn ensured that the full patient journey was appropriately documented which in turn led to more accurate research outcomes which then led into changes in clinical practice based upon the research outcomes.After a number of years building the data team and refining the data collection system, I moved into an operational and project management role within the Outpatients Directorate, supporting the introduction of a full/partial booking service and identifying ways in which digital technology could support service improvement for the patient. The role involved management of a number of teams booking patients into clinics and managing waiting lists as well as Switchboard and team trainers.I then began a role closer to home with the North of England Commissioning Support Unit (NECS), becoming a Customer Liaison Manager with a remit to assist senior management with strategy development, product development and identification of opportunities for NECS with other NHS organisations within the Derbyshire system. Along with colleagues within the Derbyshire Customer Liaison team, I supported the delivery of GP IT and Corporate IT services into the Clinical Commissioning Group, worked with GP Practices and Federations to understand business needs and map these onto technology or sevices and engaged with other third-party organisations delivering NHS services nationally.From NECS, I joined the CCG (NHS Derby & Derbyshire Integrated Care Board) as their Head of Digital Development with a remit to manage the delivery of GP IT and Corporate IT services into the organisation as well as contract management of Registration Authority, DSCRO and Business Intelligence services from NECS. Through Covid, I initiated the deployment of laptops to Derbyshire care homes to support remote consultation and access to clinical systems for care workers. More recently, I have taken on responsibility for the Information Governance function for the ICB and supporting the ICB\'s Section 251 submission for risk stratification and more recently Population Health Management and digital transformation for PCNs and optimisation of referral pathways.
