ABOUT GAVIN YOUNG

As Project Programming Lead, I\'m the person in the room people turn to when there\'s a difficult technological decision to make, or they need reassurance that the programming team has things well in hand. I believe that as a Director on a team of any size you need to lead with honesty, compassion and a broad base of knowledge that grows as you learn from those working under you. I enjoy managing people, but what I really love is managing problems. Helping technically-minded people to cut through the noise and identify what\'s actually causing an issue is a real thrill, and it hasn\'t gotten old yet! When it comes to leading teams, some of my key values are- Trusting my leads, and encourage them to trust their own team members in turn - Caring about the person first, then the developer. If someone hasn\'t taken vacation in three years there\'s no point discussing their productivity- Admit when I was wrong- Help people grow and find new challenges, even if that means having to deal with the consequences of them changing role or even leaving my team - Crunch solves nothing, and does irreparable damage to teams, developers and our industry I\'m comfortable managing and being managed remotely, and am passionate about increasing diversity in the games industry and making it a safe and equitable environment for those who are already here.
