Hi! I’m Gemma, a marketing and communications professional and Chartered Public Relations Practitioner with more than 20 years’ experience. I began writing music reviews and promoting my favourite bands while at university, have enjoyed roles across journalism, communications and marketing in the public, private and third sectors, and am currently leading on marcomms strategy for a UK & Ireland engineering and consultancy business.As you can tell from the organisations I’ve worked for, I’m not scared of fast-paced, challenging environments, in fact, that’s where I thrive! I’m proud to be a disruptor and am never afraid to jump in at the deep end.I am trusted by senior leaders to offer strategic recommendations, deliver with autonomy, and do the right thing with business goals in mind. I’m a marketer who supports business development and growth, coupled with a communicator who can bring people on the journey. Building relationships and telling stories are my favourite parts of what I do.As an advocate for showing rather than simply telling, I promote a multi-channel approach to creative content and collaborative activities. I believe better results are gained when subject matter experts are empowered and enabled to tell their stories and showcase their work.While providing strategic oversight and leading a team to deliver marketing and communications plans, I also retain the passion for getting hands-on and using my skills in copywriting, media relations, events management and stakeholder engagement.Over the years I’ve built up significant experience of crisis and reputation management; I’m highly organised and agile in the face of multiple projects and short deadlines; and I enjoy challenging established norms in the pursuit of excellence.As a team leader I ensure all members are able to bring their expertise and perspective to the table, and are encouraged to take up professional and personal development opportunities.I hold professional qualifications from the NCTJ (News Journalism and 100wpm Teeline) and CIPR (Diploma in Public Relations), as well as a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies.
