The GGCS is an industry-led, not-for-profit scheme, set up to provide a means of tracking commercial transactions of biomethane ( or ‘green gas’) through the supply chain. Each unit of green gas injected into the network displaces the need for a unit of conventional gas or natural gas (a fossil fuel). The GGCS is a reliable means of ensuring that there is no double-counting or double-selling of green gas (a problem which has characterised the ‘green’ electricity market in the past. The Panel meets three times a year.
