ABOUT GAVRIEL GUTTMAN

I have over a decade\'s worth of experience working with children, teens and adults of all needs and abilities. I have created innovative recreational programming for children and teens, organizing and supervising extracurricular and educational curriculum on various programs at home and abroad. I most recently took the helm as director of Camp S\'dei Chemed International, the premier travel camp for American teens in Israel. Founded in 1968, Camp S\'dei Chemed has been a pillar on the travel program scene for decades. I am proud that since taking on the role of director, the camp has filled to capacity every summer with an extensive revamp of the programming and a change of focus in terms of sources of clientele and staff. Before joining Camp S\'dei Chemed in this capacity, I was a long time employee at Ohel Children\'s Home and Family Services. I spent over a decade at Ohel, starting as a volunteer at the young age of 14. Most of my time at the agency was spent in the recreational respite department running programming for children with developmental disabilities and their families, which included shabbatons, holiday retreats, after school programs, parent seminars, summer camps and much more. I spent close to four years supervising this department before being promoted to Coordinator for Volunteer Engagement for the entire agency. In this role I was tasked with the essential role of growing Ohel’s volunteer program and expanding its reach within the communities the agency serves. I recruited and appropriately placed volunteers throughout Ohel and built and maintained relationships with volunteers and facilitated making connections with OHEL’s development team. Additionally, I took the lead in tracking, managing, and organizing non-monetary donations to the agency such as toys, clothing, and home supplies, which were to be distributed to clients in need throughout the regions that Ohel serves. Additionally, I Organized large, agency and community events such as the Ohel Holiday Gift Drive, holiday parties, and staff appreciation days.With my BA in English and as a licensed social worker (LMSW), I have strong communication skills- in person, in writing and in a crowded room. I have put these tools to use a role model in the lives of teenagers and young adults, a community leader, and as a recruiter for staff and participants on the various program I have been part of. I am super grateful for all the amazing experiences I have been blessed with thus far and I look forward to a long career of helping people.
