ABOUT GAVIN WHITE FIMI
A lifelong enthusiast of anything with a combustion engine, I joined the automotive industry pretty after leaving school, having completed a course in Advanced Business Studies. During my time with a local Suzuki dealer, I began my career in the motor trade, whilst learning the art of selling cars. This was followed by a brief stint away from the industry as a recruitment consultant, a move which would later prove a valuable experience. Moving back into the automotive industry soon after, I worked at Suzuki as a Service Manager, before taking the role of Group After Sales Manager. After spotting a gap in the market for a recruitment agency dedicated to placing temporary workers into the motor trade, I founded Autotech Recruit in 2010 with two of my friends. As an agency solely focused on the automotive aftermarket, Autotech Recruit supplies vehicle technicians and MOT testers on a contract and permanent basis. Seven years on and we now employ over 50 staff at the company’s head office, with a contractor network of 450+ vehicle technicians and MOT testers, supplying most of the aftermarket garage network across the UK. After more than 20 years in the sector, I have not only amassed a wealth of experience on the industry but cultivated a solid reputation which has opened doors to key automotive organisations. These include the DVSA, where I am a Trade User Group member, the IMI, IAAF and now the NTDA, where I take up the post of South East & Central Regional Chairman. This network has also enabled me to meet and work with many influential people along the way, helping me and our team of directors, steer Autotech Recruit by responding to current pressing issues facing the automotive industry. This has seen the foundation of Autotech Apprentice, to drive up the level of college leavers entering the industry and Autotech Training, which was developed to help motor trade companies and individuals hone their automotive skills and, ultimately, help close the skills gap.
