ABOUT GAVIN ESSLEMONT

Not a traditional career to date but one which I would not change. My parents invested in a private education of 13 years at Robert Gordon\'s College Aberdeen, which gave me an early appreciation of independence and enterprise.I left school at the end of 6th year and entered straight into a four-year Quantity Surveying apprenticeship at The Robert Gordon University Aberdeen, which gave me peripheral business, legal and commercial awareness within the construction and energy sectors. Following my graduation in I joined rhi and I was soon flexing my wings and travelling internationally to fullfil a variety of commercial roles, including general practise quantity surveying on building projects, cost engineering on onshore terminal construction projects in Azerbaijan, remeasurement analyses on international topsides projects, contracts support on new build FPSOs and subsea tie-backs in UKCS and ultimately a commercial role in the States working on a Gulf of Mexico deep water FPSO project.Since my return to the UK in 2006, the last 14 years have been dedicated to a variety of commercial and marketing roles:Commercial services range from developing contracting strategies through implementation, tendering, contract negotiation and execution, contract management and close out. I continue to offer this on an adhoc short-term basis. Marketing services range from developing online and offline marketing strategies, creating events, developing CRM systems, mapping business processes, creating online content and quantifying ROI through carefully structured “success metrics”.I was also the creator of a range of award-winning events, including topsides supply chain conference and exhibition Topsides UK and a service recognition event for the construction industry called Trades Awards, both of which continue to champion innovation and best practise within their respective sectors. In addition to this, I was jointly responsible for the creation and growth of a number of other award-winning events, before they were sold in 2016 and 2025.Most recently, I have been involved in a start-up related to Supply Chain Management activity, which soft launched in December 2025. It is called askSCM. Take a peek at https://askscm.ai.I “brand” myself as a creative marketer, which I define as a commercial and/or creative function to support businesses to understand their value within the sector that they operate, and support them position themselves to realise their value proposition. Get in touch if you think I might add value to your business
