ABOUT GAVIN JOHNSTON

I work at the intersection of innovation, partnership development, and the built environment, focused on creating meaningful, delivery-led collaborations that accelerate the transition to a Net Zero Carbon future.With a background in architectural design and construction project and programme management, I have spent my career working across asset management, development, and capital programmes—particularly within social housing and public-sector estates. I am a Certified Passive House Designer and bring a strong technical and delivery understanding of energy-efficient design, whole-building retrofit, and low-carbon construction.I am a strong advocate for the adoption of Modern Methods of Construction and off-site manufacturing as a route to industrialising the delivery of the built environment. I believe the sector must shift from traditional, labour-intensive construction towards a model where buildings are increasingly designed, manufactured, and assembled—improving quality, productivity, safety, and carbon performance while addressing skills and capacity challenges.My work centres on building transformative partnerships between industry, government, academia, and communities to move innovation beyond pilots and into scalable, repeatable programmes. I am particularly passionate about supporting the construction sector to decarbonise at pace—through collaborative programmes, demonstrators, skills development, and new delivery and procurement models that unlock long-term value.I am driven by the belief that the climate emergency demands systemic change, not incremental improvement. By combining innovation, strong governance, and practical delivery experience, I aim to help organisations turn ambition into action and embed sustainability into everyday decision-making.
