ABOUT GAURAV NIKUMBH
Hi, I’m Gaurav. I work on payments and money movement systems. Mostly around ACH, APIs, fraud, and platform layers. Over the last 11+ years, I’ve worked across fintech, telecom, and travel. Last 7 years have been focused on payments, where reliability and risk really matter. In my current role, I work on a US digital banking platform handling complexity across 50+ banks. Each one behaves differently, so a lot of my work is around understanding failures, making tradeoffs, and improving how the system behaves under real conditions. One example is improving ACH success rate by around 12%. Initially, retries were helping on paper, but they were also creating reconciliation and risk issues. So we moved to selective retry and controlled it better. I’ve also worked on fraud controls, reducing incidents by around 20% using real-time checks, and improving API integrations by making them more structured and reliable. Before product, I was in SDET, so I still think a lot in terms of failure scenarios and system behavior, not just happy flows. I’ve also built a small AI product (TechVenture360) which scaled to 10K+ users. That gave me hands-on experience in building from scratch and thinking about users and GTM. Right now, I’m also doing an Ex-MBA in FinTech and AI from IIM Calcutta, trying to connect that learning with real problems I work on. What drives me is simple.
