ABOUT GATHA G N

I am driven by the belief that justice systems must evolve to become more human, participatory, and responsive to the people they serve. My work is rooted in building pathways that make justice more inclusive, accessible and empathetic.I currently serve as the Chief Programme Officer at Awaaz Leadership Labs, leading the establishment of a new vertical focused on reimagining law students as paralegals and strengthening university-level legal aid systems.Previously, I spent five years at the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ), working to strengthen legal aid mechanisms for marginalised communities. I anchored initiatives on legal empowerment and capacity building for paralegals, lawyers, and community-based organizations, and led the Social Justice Lawyering Program for young lawyers across Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Jharkhand. My work spanned casework, mentorship, and designing policy interventions rooted in grassroots realities. I continue to remain associated with CSJ as a Trustee on its Board.Alongside this, I work as a Behavioural Design Associate with the F6.0 Fellowship of the First Principle Labs, where I explore how behavioral science, systems thinking, and design can be integrated to address complex social challenges and shift institutional behavior.At NUJS, I served as Vice President of the Student Body, Team Leader at IDIA, and Student Representative of the Internal Complaints Committee - experiences that shaped my understanding of leadership and collaboration.Going forward, I hope to deepen my work, support people in their journeys, and find new ways to make justice systems more empathetic and effective.
