The Protective Services Officer (PSO) augments the UC Davis Police Department’s efforts for the enforcement of all state and federal laws, the regulations of the University of California and UC Davis Medical Center security related policies and procedures. PSO’s are responsible for promoting a safe healthcare environment by serving as a deterrent to criminal activity or behavior that violates policy and/or the law. In general, PSOs will be primarily assigned to the UC Davis Medical Center but may be assigned to other facilities within the health system dependent on organizational need. When performing security-related duties, PSO’s typical duties include maintaining vigilance, conducting rounds, providing escorts, assuming fixed posts, opening and securing entryways and exits, protecting staff from verbal and physical aggression, conflict resolution and other duties as assigned. PSO security and safety responsibilities extend to all medical facilities owned and/or operated by the UC Davis Health. Individual assignments or responsibilities may be dependent on the activity, calls for service, identified issues that require a security-based resolution, identified need for security assistance or at the direction of the Security Manager or his/her designee. PSO’s shall prepare reports documenting their response to calls for service, in support of UC Davis Police Department documentation when necessary and shall complete a daily activity reports.
