ABOUT GARY HAQ
Seeking Research Collaboration/Opportunities for 2026 ** Leading interdisciplinary research and policy on climate change, air pollution, sustainable transport and ageing, with a focus on inclusive, low-carbon mobility across Africa and Asia. I am Human Ecologist specialising in urban transport, inclusive low-emission mobility, air pollution, climate change, climate gerontology, behaviour change, and community engagement. With over twenty years of experience, I have led multi-partner projects that address a wide range of environmental issues across Africa, Asia, and Europe. In my work, I focus on providing the evidence needed for effective policy formulation, including assessments, guidance frameworks, and policy briefs. I enjoy facilitating policy processes by bringing together different stakeholders in dialogues and workshops.I also develop capacity through training programmes that meet specific needs, ensuring that everyone has a voice in public meetings, discussion forums, and online surveys. I believe good communication is vital for making an impact, so I write opinion pieces, and blogs to share our findings with a broader audience.Throughout my career, I have collaborated with various organisations, including the African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, Clean Air Initiatives for Asia and Africa, European Commission, European Environment Agency, International Union for Nature Conservation, United Nations Environment Programme, and World Health Organization. My leadership in initiatives like the UK FCDO’s High Volume Transport (HVT) and the UK Partnership for Accelerated Carbon Transitions (UKPACT) programmes allows me to provide strategic insights that improve sustainable transport solutions, reduce air pollution, and tackle climate challenges.
