ABOUT GARY PRITCHARD
I am a social scientist and applied researcher specializing in data analysis, program evaluation, and behavioral research in public programs. I currently work as a Research Scientist at the California Department of Public Health, where I analyze large administrative datasets and develop analytical tools to strengthen program integrity and evidence-based decision-making in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program. My work focuses on identifying patterns in program participation, monitoring risks, and improving systems that support both accountability and access for families. My background combines academic research, government policy work, and applied behavioral research in technology. Before entering public health research, I worked in user research and behavioral science roles at Meta and the UK Government Digital Service, applying mixed-methods research to understand how people interact with complex systems and public services. I have also held research positions at the University of Cambridge. I hold a PhD in Sociology from Newcastle University, with extensive training in quantitative and qualitative research methods, administrative data analysis, and the evaluation of social programs.
