About Gary Pekoe

Dr. Gary Pekoe is a world-renowned expert in the fields of infectious diseases, dermatology, and inflammatory diseases as well as the development of topical therapeutic products, both synthetic and naturopathic. He is also a trained psychopharmacologist, having taught graduate courses and providing counseling on drugs for the brain and substance abuse.Dr Pekoe received his MS and PhD in neuro- and immunopharmacology from West Virginia University. His PhD thesis was instrumental in developing a greater understanding of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, how they impact wellness and the body’s natural ways of fighting diseases, and how to develop targeted therapies.Spurred on by a desire to improve patient health, he embarked on a career focused on developing and taking new therapies through the FDA and to market. The first of these, Bactroban (mupirocin), was the first single agent topical prescription drug ever approved by the FDA. Bactroban became the first line of defense against staph skin infections and is still prescribed worldwide. Dr. Pekoe also worked on Augmentin, a commonly prescribed oral antibiotic, and Relafen, a popular non-steroidal anti-inflammatory prescription drug.He then moved on to focus on new therapies involving the immune system, and worked on a number of vaccines as well as taking WinRho SD through the FDA for the treatment of the autoimmune disease immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). It was while working on these products that he created his own consulting group, Arkios. Before joining MMS, he spent the last 20+ years specializing in helping companies with emerging technologies bring their breakthrough products to the FDA.
