About Gary Olson
I have over 20 years of experience in higher education serving as a leader, teacher, researcher and mentor. My leadership roles have focused on efforts to revamp entry level coursework and requirements in mathematics and statistics to provide opportunities for all students to enroll in college credit bearing coursework while pursuing courses in mathematics pathways appropriate for their individual goals and interests. I also design, facilitate and research teacher training programs that prepare graduate teaching assistants in STEM disciplines to be teacher leaders in higher education with knowledge of research based best practices, experience facilitating active learning and training to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and university.I have a passion for bridging research in mathematics education with classroom practice. This has sparked my creation of 200+ active learning activities, many of the TACTivity variety, which I have shared locally, regionally and nationally for courses ranging from Quantitative Literacy through Precalculus and the Calculus sequence. My recent interests have centered on the use of dynamic computer activities,\'Techtivites\', in the college algebra classroom. These activities center and privilege student reasoning and thinking over answer finding and I study the impact they have on student understanding of function concepts prevalent throughout the course (function definition, vertical line test, injective function, inverse function, etc.).My Google Scholar Profile link below provides a recent snapshot of publications and research & hl=en
