About Gary J. Morgenthaler
Gary is a partner at Morgenthaler Ventures, focusing on investments in the software and services industries. He has a national reputation as a successful venture investor and executive in the software industry. Gary was an early investor in Siri, Inc. and served as a Siri board member until the company was acquired by Apple in April of 2010. He was also a co-founder and past CEO of Illustra Information Technologies, Inc, where he served as a Chairman of Illustra’s Board until its acquisition by Informix in 1996. Currently, he serves as Director of Big Switch Networks, NuoDB and Nominum. Previously, he served as Director of BlueArc (acquired by Hitachi Data Systems), Catena Networks (acquired by Ciena (CIEN)), Nuance Communications and Premisys Communications, and led the firm’s investments in Force10 Networks (acquired by Dell) and QuickLogic. From 1980 until 1989, Gary co-founded and served as CEO and Chairman of INGRES Corporation, a leading relational database software company. Morgenthaler Ventures has been dedicated to helping entrepreneurs build valuable companies for more than 47 years. Today, the firm has nearly $3 billion under management, including $400 million in its ninth fund, capitalized in November of 2008. Morgenthaler has invested in approximately 300 companies in the information technology and life science sectors. Representative portfolio companies in the IT space include: Siri, Inc, BlueArc, NexTag, Force10, Evernote, Lending Club, Practice Fusion, Jaspersoft, MuleSource, Nominum, Voltage Security, Verifone, Nuance Communications, Apple and NEXTEL.
