ABOUT GARY FLANDRO
I have worked aerospace and mechanical engineering since my graduation from the University of Utah in 1957. My graduate education in aeronautics at Caltech led to MS (1960) and PhD (1967) degrees. My work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory resulted in the Voyager outer planet missions launched in 1977. My academic teaching career consisted of 20 years at the University of Utah, 5 years at Georgia Tech, and 21 years at the University of Tennessee Space Institute as the Boling Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aeronautical engineering. I also served as the Engineering Department Chairman at Southern Utah University for several years. I am presently Chief Engineer at the Gloyer Taylor Laboratories in Tullahoma, TN.
