ABOUT GARY CHAPMAN
I bring a dynamic 45 year career in dentistry, spanning national and international markets across the dental and cosmetic sectors. My early career focused on dental technology, becoming a fully qualified technician in 1985. In 1989 becoming a partner in a dental laboratory building it to one of the preeminent laboratories in the UK, which I sold. I then moved into the development and expansion of British dental implant company with sales across the UK, Germany, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, providing a strong commercial and strategic foundation.I am widely recognised as a highly analytical strategic planner, an effective and persuasive communicator, and an inspiring team builder. Over the past 22 years, my focus has been on mergers and acquisitions of private and specialist dental practices, where I have built deep expertise working alongside investors, shareholders, venture capital and private equity partners.I was a key member of the team involved in the partial private-equity buyout of James Hull Associates in 2006, a transaction valued at approximately £89 million. During my time working under the guidance of Dr James Hull, I personally acquired 63 practices in just over four years, contributing significantly to the group’s growth and strategic positioning.In addition, I have advised numerous parties from the UK, Europe, the United States, the Middle East and the Far East who were considering investment opportunities within the dental sector.I currently serve as Director of M&A for UK & Europe at Portman Dentex, working closely with our CEO, Mr Sam Waley-Cohen. The group has now acquired 450+ private and specialist practices, and I have personally led and completed over 500 practice and group acquisitions during my career.I am considered by many peers and colleagues to be one of the leading authorities on the corporate private dental market, having acquired more private and specialist dental practices than any other individual in the sector. I have also been credited in multiple industry articles with playing a strategic role in the fundamental recovery and reshaping of corporate dentistry in the UK.
