ABOUT GARY BENNETT

I have over 34 years’ experience of highway engineering in the public and private sector, with a wide range of skills. My current position is Senior Engineer dealing with Section 38/278 designs, where I deal with all aspects of the planning processes for new developments, I have completed an SQA Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management and acquired my CSCS Black Card. My previous position which i did for 11 years was Project Engineer specialising in Section 38 and 278 where I give technical appraisals of new development housing and industrial designs. Involving;Design Checks:I liaised with Developers at concept stage to help identify suitable solutions for junction arrangements and highway improvements associated with new developments. I check designs submitted by Developers to ensure the designs meet required design standards. I carry out site inspections to determine suitability of proposed works within the Highway.Process Management:I establish agreed solutions with interested parties, which meet engineering and environmental considerations. Implementation:I check contract specifications for Developer construction works within the Highway. To ensure delivery of maintenance and improvement works to County Council standards, policies and procedures. I provide technical input throughout construction period. Undertake and assist with the inspection of construction works. Also attend progress meetings.Communication:I represent the County Council at meetings with the Developer, the Developer’s Consultants and/or Contractors. I liaise with the Development Planning Client, external consultants and general public. I prepare technical reports, as required.I am a highly motivated person with a passion for the built environment. I have experience dealing with a wide variety of planning and related applications. Undertaking design work from feasibility studies and site strategies through to detailed infrastructure design.
