ABOUT GARETH JONES

I am a talented Service Designer and Automation Developer working to improve critical customer services in the public sector. I specialise in service design and the iterative design process which comes from a Masters background in transportation design. I use this as a framework to underpin my thinking and expertise in user centred design, systems thinking, first principles, atomic thinking, biomimicry, swarm intelligence and modularity. For me design is a mindset and a way of thinking about everything that comes into my orbit.In recent years I have developed my leadership skills through the project management of multiple end to end, cross department automation and data projects. This has helped me to develop my judgement and negotiation skills as I demonstrate excellent communication through concurrent user engagement at all stages of project delivery. Over the last five years my natural research and problem solving ability has rapidly developed my role as an agile working, innovation and transformation advocate.Today I am a digital technology champion and subject matter expert in data and automation. I am currently leading a pioneering proof of concept automation development of complex business critical Oracle Cloud applications; using robotic process automation (RPA) and machine vision AI technology through surface automation methods in Blue Prism. While I undertake a lot of technical work in user journey mapping, design development and automation programming; this project has also placed me in a position to directly impact service transformation and policy decisions across the organisation as we look to mature the technology and develop pipelines for adopting this as a key component in delivering modern digital services. My excellent communication, listening and empathy skills enable me to explain technology and design ideas to a range of users; with varying technical abilities in a way that applies to their environment. This is the heart of service design, helping people and improving user experiences. I strongly believe in taking ownership and leading by example which has helped others to see the power of design to create real and lasting cultural change.As a key worker my ability to adapt at pace helped me transition to home working overnight. With personal experience of extremely vulnerable shielding family this period really highlighted to me how important the work I do is and how we need more systems and services that are accessible, user centred and resilient to anything that unexpectedly arises in the future.
